The Pleasures of Jamaica Vacations

Jamaica, situated just south of Cuba, is definitely the most popular of all the West Indies’ islands. Exquisite food, white sandy beaches, and a rich culture has lured many tourists into taking Jamaica vacations. The island offers you a vast selection of tourist attractions, set in perfect surroundings.

All the major cities are located along the shoreline, including Montego Bay and Kingston Town. The beaches differ to a degree, but essentially they are all still Caribbean. The most popular beach is probably the Seven Mile Beach on the west coast. Situated near Negril, it has golden sand stretching over a full seven miles; very popular among families. Near Port Antonio you will find Boston Bay Beach, known for its clear water and white sands. It is also a very popular surfing location.

It is worthwhile exploring the interior as well. On the south coast you will find the Black River, its shores filled with lush green forests. Should you decide to take an excursion on a South Coast Safari, you will come across a wide range of wildlife and birds (this area is popular among birdwatchers), and even crocodiles.

The most scenic inland view found on Jamaica vacations, is probably the view of the Blue Mountains, the largest and greenest peaks in the whole of the Caribbean. In order to reach the top, be prepared for a six hour haul. Although it is not for the faint-hearted, you will hear the songs of birdlife along the way.

Another interesting option is the opportunity to go rafting. The most popular spots are on the Rio Grande, and Martha Brea’s Village. Besides the movement of the water, the only form of propulsion is bamboo poles, making for a quiet, scenic ride, allowing you to fully experience the natural surroundings. Some rafts have a high seating platform, providing you with a magnificent view around.

Jamaica has a character of its own. The culture, lifestyle, and countryside is unique, even though it’s part of the Caribbean. Despite the fact that it is well known, it still has its charm. This uniqueness is the reason for the popularity of Jamaica vacations.
